I became ‘hooked’ on pottery when I was first introduced to clay at evening class. At the same time, as luck would have it, redundancy from my office lifestyle gave me the opportunity for a career change - fulfilling a dream of becoming a potter.
I live in beautiful Mid Wales and my recent work of country themes are influenced by this environment. The local annual Royal Welsh Agricultural Show is the ideal venue to observe the farming community and trigger my imagination to create the characters. Each piece has a playful title which adds to the humour I wish to express.
I jot down ideas in notebooks, sketch figures, and collect cuttings from magazines/newspapers which spark ideas. Conversation can also set off a train of thought.
I also make a range of large and small figures, cats, dogs, cows and sheep.
My work is individually hand built using grogged earthenware and decorated with slips, under glazes and glazes.
I am a member of the Craft Potters Association and South Wales Potters.
