South Wales Potters

Julia Land

I particularly enjoy the figurative properties of jugs and teapots.

I throw in sections and rejoin them at an angle, to emphasise their postures.

This technique allows me to create relaxed fat bellied jugs, and rather perky teapots, all with a touch of humour.

Decoration is by coloured slips, poured freely over the surface. The pots are then glazed with a rich blue earthenware glaze, which enhances the tonal range of the slips beneath.

I now share a workshop with Ned Heywood in Chepstow, Monmouthshire.
